The recently established Cluster of Excellence "Microbiomes Drive Planetary Health" unites microbiome research in Austria, bringing together 8 leading research institutions with strengths in many highly relevant areas of microbiome research, from the human microbiome to global change microbiology.

Our goal is to explore and understand the fundamental principles of microbiomes across systems by (i) strategically linking environmental and human microbiome research and (ii) developing cutting-edge technologies for structure-function analyses of complex microbial communities. This program is funded by the FWF Excellence Initiative excellent=austria. The first 5-year funding period for "Microbiomes Drive Planetary Health" started in October 2023.

We are currently seeking talented individuals for more than 20 positions, including postdocs, PhD students, and technicians, to become an integral part of our interdisciplinary research team at 8 institutions across Austria. Your contribution is crucial for the success of our diverse work packages, which cover environmental, human and methodological topics.

We invite applications from excellent, curious, and open-minded scientists to contribute to projects that have the potential to transform our understanding of microbiomes and their impact on planetary health.

Successful candidates (PhD students, postdocs and technicians) will benefit from a unique and comprehensive mentoring and training program, including training in microbiome methods, transferable skills and entrepreneurship, as well as active career planning. Furthermore, all cluster members will have full access to 9 state-of-the-art methodological facilities.

All PhD positions are fully funded for 4 years. The duration of PostDoc and Technician positions varies (up to 4 years).

Review of applications will begin immediately after April 15, 2024 and will continue until positions are filled.
