Research Associate, Colorado State University

We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic microbiologist to join our team that aims to understand the roles microorganisms play in shaping the world around us.

Position Summary: We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic microbiologist to join our research team in the Wrighton Lab at Colorado State University. You will be part of a large, team-oriented group of scientists, working to solve pressing issues about the roles microorganisms play in shaping the world around us. You will have experience in molecular biology as it relates to interrogating microbial organisms using gene and/or genome content information. The position contains both project management and research duties, so diverse research experiences are appreciated. General responsibilities include: 1. General lab administration and project management- budget, ordering, sample organization, safety 2. Laboratory microbiology- molecular biology approaches, cultivation of microorganisms, chemical analyses 3. Computational science- amplicon and metagenome data processing 4. Required Job Qualifications: 

For Research Associate II:
Bachelor’s degree plus 3 years professional experience or a Master’s degree in microbiology, biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, soil science, or a closely related field .

For Research Associate III:
Bachelor’s degree + 5 years related experience or Master’s degree + 2 years experience in microbiology, biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, soil science, or a closely related field

All applicants:
Demonstrable experience using molecular biology approaches (e.g. PCR, DNA/RNA extraction, library preparation) to characterize microbial communities.

Preferred Job Qualifications: 

  • Administrative activities like preparing budgets, organizing workshops/events
  • Enhancing laboratory efficiency- operating robotic systems, laboratory automation software, LIMS systems
  • Microbiology experience for cultivating microorganisms
  • Managing research teams and/or training earlier career scientists
  • Amplicon or metagenomic data processing and analyses
  • Chemical measurements in soils and other samples
  • Knowledge of R, python, or Linux
