Climate change, functional and phylogenetic diversity of micro-organisms and ecosystem functioning

Context
This position is offered within the scope of the Thematic Project entitled Freshwater ecosystems under climate change: impacts across multiple levels of organization, funded by
São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP, 2019/08474-8), and coordinated by Dr Gustavo Romero (IB-UNICAMP) and Dr. Valéria Maia Merzel (CPQBA-UNICAMP).
Aims and Tasks
The candidate will investigate the drivers of spatiotemporal changes (mostly climatic, but also land use) on taxonomic, functional and phylogenetic components of microbial community diversity associated to bromeliad ecosystems in natural environments as well as in mesocosm experiments. To achieve these aims, the candidate will collect and process biological samples for total DNA extraction, in addition to performing high throughput sequencing of 16S rRNA amplicons and metagenomic DNA, and further bioinformatic analyses of sequence datasets using modern rapidly advancing programs and pipelines, as well as statistical tools for later estimates and broad comparisons of the communities' phylogenetic and functional diversity.

• The candidate should have concluded a doctorate less than seven years before the beginning of the PD fellowship;
• The fellowship demands full time dedication to the research project;
• The fellowship holder may not hold any formal or informal employment nor receive, during the term of the fellowship, a fellowship from another entity, salary or
remuneration deriving from the exercise of activities of whatever nature.
Researcher skills required
We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher, with a successful research track record, and with background on (i) molecular biology; (ii) microbiology; (iv) microbial
community ecology and biodiversity analyses, including functional and phylogenetic alpha- and beta-diversity, (v) bioinformatics, data analysis and presentation using R language. Solid scientific communication skills, including writing and oral in English, is required.
Post-doctoral fellowship stipend The successful candidate will receive a post-doctoral fellowship stipend of R$ 7,373.10 Brazilian reais per month, over 24 months. Please, see details at https://fapesp.br/en/postdoc.
