Postdoc on plant microbiome assembly processes and the influence of the microbiome on plant function

A new postdoctoral position in Dr. Posey Busby's research group at Oregon State University (OSU) to elucidate plant microbiome assembly processes and the influence of the microbiome on plant function (e.g., disease resistance, drought tolerance). Research position will focus on the ecology of fungal leaf endophytes, ubiquitous symbionts of land plants.

The postdoctoral position will contribute to a recently funded NSF CAREER project addressing how plant genotype and environmental factors jointly influence the assembly of fungal leaf endophyte communities, and their functional influence on plant health. This work will be conducted primarily in the Populus model system, in which host genetics, leaf fungi, and distinct environmental factors (climate and fungal species pools) can be controlled and quantified. Experimental methods include field and greenhouse studies, genomic analysis, and gene editing. The postdoc will also have opportunities to collaborate on other projects in the lab, including research at the HJ Andrews LTER site. More information on my research group can be found here: www.posybusby.com

The ideal candidate would have a PhD in biology (or related field), and experience in fungal ecology, molecular techniques (e.g., metabarcoding), and advanced computational approaches. The initial appointment is for 1 year, with possible extension to 2 years or longer. Preferred start date is September 2022. Follow this link to additional details and information on how to apply. Email posy.busby@oregonstate.edu with any questions.

OSU is in Corvallis, Oregon, a favorite west coast college town. By car, Corvallis is 1.5 hours south of Portland, 1 hour east of the coast, and 2 hours west of Bend (hiking, skiing).

Dr.Busby's lab is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive community in my lab. I will ensure that no individual is denied access to this employment opportunity for reasons unrelated to ability or qualifications. I therefore welcome applications from members of historically underrepresented racial/ethnic groups, women, individuals with disabilities, veterans, LGBTQ community members, and others who will contribute to a diverse and inclusive community.
