Post-Doctoral Position in Freshwater Microbiology individuals with experience in environmental microbiology in either freshwater and marine systems. The position is available for 2 years based on annual performance reviews with possibility of extension. The project is part of a funded Canada Water Agency Great Lakes Freshwater Ecosystem Initiative award directed at assessment of seasonal P dynamics associated with the Leamington tributaries in the western Lake Erie catchment. The qualified applicants should have experience in aquatic and/or molecular microbiology, molecular microbial identification including bioinformatics, experience with targeted sequencing, functional differential gene analyses and good skills in statistics (e.g. R, Kbase, QIIME), and familiarty with coding and or scripting data base management). The applicant will be part of a team involved in co-mentoring graduate and undergraduate students in a diverse and inclusive environment. The position is an exciting opportunity providing research and work experience for funded projects in the Great Lakes region and elsewhere in Canada (e.g. Arctic). Additionally the fellow will gain experience in project management while networking with federal, provincial and transnational scientists and with NGOs and the private sector.
Research Focus will be linking microbial community function and diversity impacted by anthropogenic disruptions to natural nutrient biogeochemical cycles (e.g. N, P C). Preference will be given to enthusiastic applicants with superior academic credentials including evidence of peer reviewed publications, and strong communication skills. Be eligible to obtain an Ontario G Class drivers license(or equivalent) as position will require driving to field sites.

The Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research (GLIER) of the University of Windsor supports a multi-disciplinary research team focused on studying the impact of multiple stressors on aquatic ecosystems. It is dedicated to the management of the earth's resources to protect and maintain human and environmental health. GLIER is located in world-class facilities on the Detroit River at the University of Windsor. The Institute houses the University cental facility laboratories.
