The Department of Biology at the University of Waterloo invites applications for a full-time definite term faculty position as a Lecturer in Applied Microbiology with an anticipated start date of November 1, 2021.
The successful candidate will normally teach approximately five lecture courses over three terms per year, including an introductory course in Applied Microbiology and third- and fourth-year courses in public health, environmental, and industrial microbiology. In addition to developing, updating, and teaching courses, the successful candidate will have opportunities to have a substantial role in advising students and developing the Biology undergraduate program more broadly. Although the appointment will be made initially for a three-year term, this position fills an important role in the Department. It is anticipated that an appointee with outstanding performance will be considered for a permanent faculty appointment as a Continuing Lecturer during a second three-year term. The salary range for the Lecturer rank is $75,000 to $95,000 for 12 months.
Applicants should have relevant training and demonstrated excellence in microbiology. A doctoral degree in biology or a closely related discipline is required. Applicants should have established a strong teaching record or be able to provide evidence of potential for high-quality teaching at all levels within an undergraduate curriculum. Teaching experience in a university setting will be considered an asset.
